Older video talking about 4.81 ? There's no reason not to update as far as I'm aware, and the super slim is the only model completely un jailbreak able at the moment, but you can use hen which can do most of the same things still. Update it if you want to be able to play games online.

Nowadays all PS3 models FAT, Slim, and superslim have been jailbroken. Before Jailbreaking, you just have to keep 2 things in mind. What is your PS3 model number and firmware version? Because there are two types of jailbreaks and I named them CFW Installer and HEN Installer.
Should I install HFW? If you have an unmodified PS3 system or you didn't install HFW on your PS3 system. You must have HFW firmware installed before applying the jailbreak patches. Can I downgrade PS3 firmware? No, you can't downgrade your PS3 firmware without hardware modification.
The ps3 slim either can be jailbroken fully or semi fully based on the serial number. If you cannot fully jailbreak the system like me you can simply get HEN and run the hen before you can open up your games. There are ways to use an external drive. Ps3 only recognizes drives formatted to fat32 which typically limit the system to 2gb.
As you can see, you cannot install a custom jailbroken firmware on PS3 Slim 3XXX and PS3 Super Slim 4XXX versions. That said, you can still use Homebrew software on these latter models with PS3HEN.
